Xiaoyun Zeng
(b. 1994; Chongqing, China) is an LA-based interdisciplinary artist who works a range of media from ambient sound to kinetic sculpture. Her work highlights the transformation of commodity into value by repurposing everyday materials into artistic expression, adapting them in unique and unexpected ways to form integrated structures. Immersed within the space of interaction between these systems and the larger environment, the audience is invited to project a new relation toward their surroundings and to re-envision the possibilities of daily life.
Xiaoyun's work evokes extraordinary possibilities of interconnection between the kinetic machine and the somatic body. By highlighting the mechanical character of human habit and the dynamic nature of cybernetics in motion, she blurs the boundary of experience and engineering: how do we mechanically treat objects in our rituals of everyday living? How are they shaping the flow of the present? How did these phenomena emerge from society in time and how will they fit into cultures of the future?
